DANÉ VAN NIEKERK TO RETURN FOR 2024 CAMPAIGN

Sunrisers are delighted to announce the return of overseas signing Dané van Niekerk for the 2024 season.

The South African, 30, enjoyed a positive stint with us last summer, including a sensational century in a fifty over warm up game against Central Sparks at Radlett, before her stay was cut short after suffering a thumb injury whilst playing for Oval Invincibles in the Hundred.

Van Niekerk took on a role at the top of the order in our Charlotte Edwards Cup campaign, and also captained the side for four games. Her experience, ideas, and insight, which have made her one of the best and most respected captains in the world, were valuable in helping the ongoing evolution of a youthful Sunrisers playing group.

Dané will rejoin the squad ahead of the Charlotte Edwards Cup campaign, which begins with a trip to Worcestershire to face Central Sparks on Sunday 19 May.

We look forward to welcoming her back this summer to continue her role on and off the field, as an outstanding cricketer and mentor for the team and leadership group.

Sunrisers Head Coach Andy Tennant was delighted to confirm the return of van Niekerk: “We are delighted to welcome Dané back for the 2024 summer. Having fitted into our environment so well last year and added value in so many ways, we were very keen to secure her services again, and it is great that we have been able to do that.

We are looking forward to working with Dané this summer and help her fulfil her ambitions in the game, which will help Sunrisers fulfil our ambition to challenge for silverware.”

After extending her stay, van Niekerk said:

“I’m very excited to join Sunrisers again this year. I had a blast last year and hopefully I can add value to the team again this summer and help the team win a trophy. I’m also thankful for the faith the club has put in me to sign me again.”

Please join us in welcoming Dané back to the club!
