GREWCOCK AND SURENKUMAR NAMED IN ENGLAND U19 SQUAD

Updated: Mar 28

Congratulations to Jodi Grewcock and Amu Surenkumar, who have both been named in the England U19 squad to tour Sri Lanka later this month.

Grewcock had a superb 2023 campaign as she claimed the Sunrisers Player of the Year having already won the PCA’s Player of the Month Award for July. Starring with both bat and ball in the fifty over format, Grewcock finished the season as our joint-leading wicket taker and second highest run scorer, hitting 232 runs and taking 14 wickets.

Surenkumar, who made her first team debut at just 16 last summer, has impressed for the Sunrisers Academy over the last three years. She took the final two wickets to claim victory against Southern Vipers on her debut in July, making seven appearances at the back end of the campaign.

The England Women U19 squad will face Sri Lanka and Australia in a Tri Series over both T20 and 50-over formats. Games will be played in late March and early April with the dates and venues to be confirmed.

Within the 15-player group are a number of players that attended the inaugural ICC Women’s U19 World Cup in South Africa in January 2023 and who are still age-eligible. They are joined by some players who are U19 for the 2024 season only and some players who will also remain as U19 players for the second Women’s U19 World Cup in Malaysia in January 2025 and therefore will be in contention for that programme later in 2024.

Sunrisers Regional Director, Danni Warren, said: “We are all so proud of Jodi and Amu on receiving their call ups for the England U19 tour. They showcased their talent in a Sunrisers shirt last summer, and have since both progressed brilliantly over the winter months. Their selection is testament for all the hard work that they and their families have put in.

It’s also another accomplishment for the Sunrisers pathway, evidencing the great work that Luke Pomfret and his team are doing. Our region has so much talent in it, led by some superb coaches in the county system, and we are again seeing this come through at elite level.”

Best of luck to both Jodi and Amu!
