MATCH REPORT | SUNRISERS v SPARKS

Match Report provided by the ECB Reporters Network

Sunrisers and Central Sparks collected two points apiece after heavy rain at Radlett meant their Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy match had to be abandoned.

Only 6.3 overs were bowled, with Sparks openers Eve Jones and Chloe Brewer steering their side to 27 without loss before the first of several deluges flooded the playing surface.

Sunrisers inserted the visitors after winning the toss and seam duo Kate Coppack and Eva Gray kept it tight at the outset, finding some movement and conceding just three from the first three overs before Sparks started to get into their stride.

Jones dispatched Gray for two well-placed cover boundaries and, although Brewer survived a scare when her leading edge fell just short of Coppack, the opening pair appeared to be gaining traction when the initial burst of rain arrived.

Further downpours made it impossible for play to resume and umpires Ant Harris and Fiona Richards eventually called the match off at 1.15pm following a pitch inspection.

Both sides continue their 50-over campaigns on Wednesday, with Sunrisers due to take on Northern Diamonds at York and Sparks hosting Lancashire Thunder at Worcester.
