SCOTLAND NAME THEIR SQUAD FOR JULY INTERNATIONALS

Congratulations to Abtaha Maqsood and Chloe Abel, who have been named in the Scotland squad for their upcoming Tri-series with the Netherlands and Thailand. Maqsood will also vice-captain the side for the first two matches.

Chloe Abel has received her first call up to the squad, with the Tasmanian having flown into the UK at the start of the summer, and qualifies for the side through her mother. She has featured for the Middlesex Women’s side, was recently awarded a Middlesex cap, and has spent time with the Sunrisers senior group as an extra seam option during training.

Scotland depart for the Netherlands on July 9, and are scheduled to play four T20 internationals across six days at Kampong CC. The Scots begin with a game against Thailand on Monday July 10, followed by back-to-back matches on Wednesday July 12 and Thursday July 13 against the Netherlands and Thailand respectively. The tour concludes with a final fixture against the Netherlands on Saturday July 15.

Therefore, Maqsood will be unavailable for two of our Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy fixtures, away to South East Stars on Tuesday 11 July and at home to Thunder on Friday 14 July, but is expected to return for the trip to Central Sparks a week later.

On her most recent international call up, Maqsood said: “I’m really excited to be selected to play for Scotland. Playing for my country has always been such an honour, and I’m very grateful for another opportunity to take the field with this team again. I can’t wait to join up with the squad and get going in a couple of weeks!”

Head Coach Andy Tennant commented: “It’s a great achievement for Chloe to receive her first call up, and we're delighted for Abtaha that she has been given the chance to represent her country once more. Obviously we will miss her in the games that she's away as the skillset that she has shown this season has been excellent, but it's a great opportunity for her to go and wear the thistle with pride as vice captain of Scotland.”

Good luck to both Abtaha and Chloe!
