Sunrisers can today confirm that there are six Second Eleven fixtures scheduled for the 2023 summer, as the club looks to increase the playing time for all members of the squad.
After trialling the idea last summer, we are delighted to be able to get a more fixed schedule in place, with matches organised against some of the other regional sides.
With an increase in First Eleven fixtures, this provides many opportunities for the squad to be able to play competitive games and keep match fit, even if they have limited game time in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy or the Charlotte Edwards Cup.
On the announcement of the Second Eleven fixtures, Club Coach Robbie Gunn, who will be leading the side, said: “We are delighted to have secured these fixtures for the summer, which will give any players who are recovering from injury, players who have find themselves out of the team, and Academy players the perfect chance to keep up their in-game fitness with us.
There were a couple of games last season which turned out to be hugely successful, and getting more dates in the diary will allow us to continue the growth in strength of our playing squad. With players getting more game time, the competition within the squad will be higher than before.”
