SQUAD AND PREVIEW | CENTRAL SPARKS (17 SEPTEMBER)

Updated: Feb 27, 2023

Sunrisers have named a squad of fifteen for their final away trip of the season, as they make the journey to Worcester’s New Road to face Central Sparks.

They travel to Worcestershire after a tough defeat to Lightning last weekend, where a batting collapse took them from a very promising position to a heavy loss, uncharacteristic of what has happened so far this season.

Grace Scrivens and debutant Jodi Grewcock looked composed at the top of the order, with their partnership of 97 providing a brilliant platform for the Sunrisers innings.

Scrivens had earlier been economical with the ball as she went into an outright lead at the top of the competition’s wicket takers, bowling superbly in tandem with Jo Gardner, who finished with 3 for 45, her best figures in a Sunrisers shirt.

The squad were quick to put the result to one side and pick themselves up again this week, and will be looking to bounce back with energy and passion on Saturday and finish the season on a with a win that would lift them off the bottom of the table.

Amara Carr and Cordelia Griffith are still out injured, whilst Scarlett Hughes (finger) and Kelly Castle (bruised shoulder) will be hopeful of a return to the side, having had a week of training after overcoming their respective injuries.

Sparks come into the game off the back of a 59 run loss against South East Stars. Their England stars Sarah Glenn, Amy Jones, and Issy Wong have just finished their T20 series against India, and, with selection for the 50 over series yet to be announced, are likely to remain unavailable, which is a huge boost to Sunrisers after all three put in impressive performances against them earlier in the season.

The game starts at 10.30am at the New Road. Tickets are on sale through the Worcestershire website, costing £5 for adults and £1 for Under 18s. If you are unable to make the journey to Worcester, you can tune into the Sparks Live Stream in our Match Centre on the day.
