Sunrisers have named a squad of fourteen to head south for this weekend’s Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy fixture, as they face Southern Vipers on Saturday.
The squad are incredibly close to victory, after two strong performances in the past couple of weeks. Yet, frustratingly, they were unable to claim the win once more last weekend, as they lost to Western Storm by 3 wickets.
Cordelia Griffith, who hit her season-best score of 74, and Grace Scrivens, scoring her second fifty in three games, put on a fantastic opening stand of 148 and will be hoping to replicate that innings in the middle at the Ageas Bowl.
Scrivens and Mady Villiers once again led the bowling attack superbly, and the Southampton wicket should offer some increased assistance to spin after the weather over the past week. With Abtaha Maqsood, Jo Gardner, and the retuning Lissy Macleod, Sunrisers have great strength in depth in that area which will encourage the side.
Macleod returns to the squad for the first time since pre-season having recovered from her injury, with Sonali Patel also involved – the young seamer in the squad for the first time in 2022. This will give a huge boost to the group, with two players who have performed impressively over the last few seasons eager to regain their places.
Jodi Grewcock, Scarlett Hughes, and Flo Miller are all in action for the Sunrisers Academy in their Regional Academy Festival in Shrewsbury this week, where they have won once and lost once so far. They have two fixtures remaining, a 50 over game tomorrow and a T20 on Sunday morning.
The game starts at 10.30am at the Ageas Bowl. We wish a safe journey to those who are making the journey up to Yorkshire, or you can tune into the Live Stream in our Match Centre on the day.
