Sunrisers have named a squad of thirteen to travel to face Western Storm on Friday, in the fourth match of our Charlotte Edwards Cup campaign.
The side come into the game off the back of an impressive victory over Southern Vipers at Arundel Castle, thanks to four wickets from debutant Sophie Munro.
Jo Gardner has started life as an opening batter brilliantly, and backed up Friday’s 79* with another 42 runs to take her to the top of the competition’s run scoring charts. An opening partnership of 66 with captain Grace Scrivens provided a strong start, which was bolstered by Mady Villiers (34*) and Jodi Grewcock (22) at the back end.
The bowling lineup, which featured the on-loan Munro for the first time, looked confident and fired-up, and made the breakthrough when the seamer bowled Australian Knott in the eleventh over.
She then struck twice in an over, as the pressure increased on the home side’s lower order, before finishing with a stumping to return figures of 4 for 27.
Eva Gray bowled exceptionally well to finish with figures of 1 for 16, including defending 13 in the final over, whilst Villiers also took a wicket in an impressive spell.
After Monday’s victory, Sunrisers head to the West Country to take on Storm at Somerset’s County Ground.
Storm have started the campaign with losses to two of the top three – Stars and Sparks – and had one rained off, so will be looking to kick-start their tournament into life.
Australian spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington has been in fine form for her side, with four wickets including 3 for 22 against Stars. Storm have just signed Issy Wong on loan from Sparks as well, which has bolstered their seam bowling options.
The game starts at 2.30pm at Somerset’s County Ground in Taunton. Tickets are still available to buy, as part of a double header before the men’s Vitality Blast fixture between Somerset and Essex.
