Head coach Trevor Griffin has named a 13 player squad for the Sunrisers first home game at the Cloudfm County Ground in the Charlotte Edwards Cup where they will take on Northern Diamonds.
The Sunrisers will be looking to secure another victory after Kelly Castle led the team to an outstanding win against Western Storm last week in their first T20, putting them at the top of the table in their group. There were multiple stand out performances with the bat players, with Mady Villiers scoring 36, and Grace Scrivens adding an unbeaten 34. Scrivens also performed with the ball taking1 for 16 off her 4 overs and Sonali Patel picking up 2 for 26 taking Sunrisers to a 7-wicket win.
Equally brilliant performances will be needed for Sunrisers this Friday against Northern Diamonds, as it could prove to be a challenging game. The last time the two teams came head-to-head in the Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy, Amara Carr and Gaya Gole made an effort to save the batting after an early top order collapse, but the Sunrisers were all out for 53 runs in just 29.1 overs, leaving them to be defeated in just 7.4 overs. A disappointing and frustrating game for the women but a learning experience if nothing else.
Northern Diamonds were defeated by Thunder in their first T20 last week, with Thunder defending their total of 118, restricting Diamonds to 106. Despite their loss, the Northern Diamond players showed their threat, with good performances from Sterre Kalis, Hollie Armitage and Beth Langston, all players to keep an eye on come Friday.
Sunrisers will be seeking their revenge this weekend going into the game with determination to pursue their recent success, whilst Northern Diamonds will be looking for a win to kick start their T20 campaign. This game is definitely not one to be missed.
