SQUAD AND PREVIEW | SUNRISERS v SOUTHERN VIPERS (2 JULY)
Academy graduate Amu Surenkumar has been included in the matchday squad for the first time, after earning her first senior contract this week.
She joins fellow Academy star Esmae MacGregor in the squad of fifteen, after MacGregor made her debut in Hove last time out, whilst Mady Villiers returns from England duty.
Grace Scrivens misses out as she is captaining the England A side in their final fifty over game against Australia A tomorrow, whilst Eva Gray will stay with the three lions in Guildford. All-rounder Jo Gardner also misses out on the matchday squad, as she remains on the sidelines with a hand injury.
Surenkumar was involved on Tuesday as a Sunrisers XI faced Central Sparks in a fifty over warm up game at Radlett, taking two wickets with the ball, whilst captain Dané van Niekerk shone with the bat, hitting 116 from 83 balls. Jodi Grewcock (45) and Cordelia Griffith (40) also looked in good touch with the bat, with both looking to carry on their good form this season.
Sunrisers will be looking to recover from a difficult Charlotte Edwards Cup campaign, and face the Southern Vipers for the third time this year, having beaten them on the opening day of the season. Villiers (70), Scrivens (67), and Grewcock (69) all stood out with the bat on that day in April, before Abtaha Maqsood’s five wicket haul saw us to a convincing 126 run victory.
The game starts at 10.30am at The Cloud County Ground in Chelmsford. Tickets are still available to buy on the day, at £10 for adults and £5 for children, whilst entry is free for Essex, Middlesex, and Northamptonshire members, as well as Junior Sunnies members. We wish a safe journey to those who are making the journey to join us, or you can tune into the Live Stream on our YouTube channel and in the Match Centre on the day.
Sunrisers have named the following squad:
Dané van Niekerk (captain)
We head to Beckenham to face South East Stars on Tuesday 11 July in our next game, before hosting Thunder at Northampton’s County Ground on Friday 14. Tickets for that game are available to buy here, at £10 for adults and £5 for children. Both games will start at 10.30am.
