SQUAD AND PREVIEW – SUNRISERS V THUNDER
Head coach Trevor Griffin has named a 13 player squad for Sunrisers’ trip to Old Trafford this Friday, where they will be seeking redemption against Thunder in the Charlotte Edwards Cup.
Sunrisers experienced a disappointing loss against Northern Diamonds last week and have been working hard to regain the winning feeling for the next T20. Although a rocky start to the batting, Jo Gardner and Katherine Speed provided an inning’s saving partnership scoring 42 and 26 respectively, helping post a total of 116 for 7. Mady Villiers and Grace Scrivens both picked up 1 for 22 with the ball, though unfortunately on this occasion, this wasn’t enough. Leah Dobson and Sarah Taylor seeing Northern Diamonds home with an 87-run partnership, that secured an 8-wicket win.
Thunder also loss in their last round last, the weather affecting their match against Western Storm. Thunder batted first, putting 110 for 8 on the score board, a heavy downpour of rain meant Storm’s target was reduced to 33 from 5 overs, which was accomplished in just 3.1 overs with only 1 wicket lost.
When these two side met in the Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy it was Thunder coming out on top, winning by 36 runs. Sunrisers bowler set that game up, with Sonali Patel taking 4 for 40, including a hattrick, and Mady Villiers picking up 3 for 47. Thunder eventually posting 247 runs for 9 wickets, thanks to Georgie Boyce (91) and Kate Cross (43). Despite starts from Fran Wilson with 50 and Alice Macleod with 38, Sunrisers unable to reach their target, scoring 211 from 45.2 overs before being bowled out.
All is to be played for in the upcoming T20’s as all teams in Group B sit on 4 points in the Charlotte Edwards Cup. Sunrisers are looking forward to focusing on bringing a win home this week before they break for the 100-ball competition and resume together at the end of August. Goodluck Sunrisers #Riseup.
