Head coach Trevor Griffin has named a 13 player squad for the Sunrisers next T20 against Thunder in the Charlotte Edwards Cup. On Saturday 27th August Sunrisers will be playing at one of their home grounds, The Northampton County Ground.
Unfortunately, the Sunrisers were unable to secure the win on Wednesday, losing to the Northern Diamonds by a narrow 19 runs. The game did however hold many positives. We started strong by winning the toss and electing to bowl first, which was followed by a couple of early wickets putting the Northern Diamonds on the defensive straight away.
The Northern Diamonds did however manage to pick themselves back up and finished on a score of 120 for 6 from 20 overs. Coppack had an outstanding spell of 2/10 from 4, Dattani also picked up 2/24 from 3. After a decent performance in the field the Sunrisers were unable to chase down the runs after also losing some early wickets. Although in total they only lost 7 wickets, they fell short of the runs at 20 overs. Despite the loss, Gardner took the opportunity to have a knock around, scoring 31 runs from 29 balls.
The Sunrisers will be leaving that result behind them and working hard this weekend in front of the home crowd to bring back the winning feeling. As always, the game is set to be a challenging one as the last time the Sunrisers played Thunder in the Charlotte Edwards Cup, they set a massive score of 186 runs with just 1 wicket lost in the 20 overs. Lamb scored 111* by herself, with support from Boyce with 34 and Threlkeld 26*. These will definitely be key players the Sunrisers will be keeping their eyes on.
Although the Sunrisers put in a big shift, they were unable to keep up with the run rate and therefore lost by 71 runs. Despite this the team had a very good game with solid batting performances from multiple players; Griffith - 34, Carr - 25, Speed - 14. Hopefully the women can take this into this weekend and put a substantial score on the board.
Sunrisers are looking forward to being back on home turf and are confident they can turn things around. Goodluck to everyone playing!
