SQUAD AND PREVIEW | SUNRISERS v VIPERS (24 MAY)

Sunrisers Head Coach Andy Tennant has selected a squad of fourteen for our first Charlotte Edwards Cup home game of the campaign, on Friday evening in Chelmsford.

New signing Sophie Munro comes into the squad, having signed on loan from The Blaze this week.

Lissy Macleod made her first appearance of the summer and top-scored with 54 in the opening game, as we fell to defeat in Worcester against Sparks. Jo Gardner also impressed with the bat, as she hit 30 in a new role at the top of the order.

Mady Villiers was the standout with the ball, as she picked up two wickets with her off-spin. Eva Gray returned from injury to claim a wicket in her first over. Both will be keen to add to their tally on Friday night.

Sunrisers face Vipers home and away over the Bank Holiday weekend, with the return fixture taking place at Arundel Castle on Monday afternoon.

Reigning champions Vipers lost their first game of the campaign by three runs against The Blaze last weekend. After having Blaze 48/8, a 62-run partnership saw them needing to chase 113 for victory. The reply never really got going, and they finished on 109/9 from their twenty overs.

Sunrisers beat Southern Vipers by three wickets in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy just two weeks ago, after Jodi Grewcock and Flo Miller steered the side to victory at Radlett.

Nic Hancock took three wickets, supported by fellow opening bowler Kate Coppack who picked up two, as Sunrisers bowled well to restrict the visitors to 211/9.

Four Vipers are in the England Women ODI squad, who get their series against Pakistan underway today. Lauren Bell, Maia Bouchier, Charlie Dean, and Danni Wyatt will all miss the back to back fixtures, but Vipers will still have the likes of Georgia Adams, Linsey Smith, and overseas Charli Knott to call upon.

The game starts at 6.30pm at Essex Cricket’s Cloud County Ground. Tickets can be purchased on the gate at £10 for adults and £5 for U18. Essex, Northamptonshire and Middlesex members will get in for free when they show a valid membership pass on entry.

If you can’t make it to the game, make sure you tune in to watch the free live stream on our YouTube channel, alongside updates on our social media channels. We wish a safe travel to those of you joining us in the evening.
