SQUAD AND PREVIEW | SUNRISERS V WESTERN STORM (4 SEPTEMBER)

Andy Tennant has named a fourteen player squad for tomorrow’s clash against Western Storm at The Brunton Memorial Ground, Radlett in The Rachael Heyhoye-Flint Trophy.

Sophie Munro returns to the squad, having been unavailable for selection against Blaze, with Mady Villiers joining up with the England squad for their WODI series against Ireland. We wish Mady all the best on international duty.

Sunrisers currently occupy fourth place in the standings, sitting on 30 points. Our opponents sit bottom of the table on 14 points. Sunrisers could confirm their place in the semi-finals with victory tomorrow, provided Blaze fail to beat Thunder in Sale.

It was defeat on the road last time out for Sunrisers when they took on Blaze. Winning the toss and batting first, Sunrisers posted 245, with Cordelia Griffith knocking a superb 65 with seven fours and one six. However a 75-run opening partnership for Blaze, gave them the start needed to push on and chase their target down with six overs to spare. Kathryn Bryce finished on 87 not out. Mady Villiers and Eva Gray both finished with two wickets each.

Storm were defeated by Stars in their last game in a high-scoring affair. Batting first, Storm posted 282, with runs coming from Sophie Luff (58), Fran Wilson (81) and Nat Wraith (68). However, Stars were able to chase down their target with 16 balls remaining, for the loss of five wickets. The wickets were shared amongst Storm’s bowlers.

It was an eight-wicket victory for Sunrisers at Sophia Gardens on opening day when these two sides last met. Sunrisers won the toss and asked Storm to bat first. In a superb performance with the ball, the hosts were dismissed for 114 within 31 overs. Nicola Hancock finished with figures of 3-15. Jodi Grewcock also claimed three wickets. In reply Sunrisers comfortably chased down their target with 16 overs to spare. Grace Scrivens played beautifully for her 63 not out which included 10 boundaries.

Tomorrow’s game starts at 10:30am at The Brunton Memorial Ground, Radlett. Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for U16s. Tickets are available both ONLINE and on the gate tomorrow. Car parking is free.
