SQUAD AND PREVIEW | SUNRISERS v WESTERN STORM (5 SEPTEMBER)

Sunrisers Head Coach, Andy Tennant, has named a squad of thirteen for tomorrow’s Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy fixture against Western Storm, at Radlett Cricket Club.

Grace Scrivens will captain the side, after Dané van Niekerk suffered an injury to her right thumb during the Hundred which ruled her out of any potential return. Mady Villiers continues in her role as vice-captain.

Scrivens and Eva Gray featured in an England Development Eleven last Monday, as they faced Sri Lanka ahead of their international series against England. Scrivens captained that day, after leading the U19 World Cup side and in the England A fifty over series against Australia A.

Ariana Dowse is named in the squad for the first time, having signed a contract with Sunrisers over the weekend. The wicket-keeper batter will provide Andy Tennant with another at the top of the order, as well as cover behind the stumps.

Amu Surenkumar and Esmae MacGregor have been impressive since they came into the team, having been the latest players to graduate from the Sunrisers Academy. Both youngsters have settled into the group comfortably, and will be looking to make their mark once again.

Over the Hundred period, Jo Gardner returned from a hand injury that had kept her out of action throughout July, and she will be raring to go again in a Sunrisers shirt having recently signed a new contract with the side.

Leg spinner Abtaha Maqsood misses out this week, as she is away with Scotland at the World Cup qualifiers. They are in action six times over a seven day period, starting on Wednesday against Italy. Abtaha will return to the group for our away trip to Blaze next week.

Sunrisers will be looking to finish the season well, and hope to inflict revenge on Storm for a six run defeat last time out – in a rain affected 22 over game at Cheltenham College. Scrivens top-scored with 39 in July, whilst Gray, Villiers, and van Niekerk all scored quick-fire twenties.

Victory would lift Sunrisers off the bottom of the table and take them potentially as high as fifth if results went their way, so it is all to play for at the back end of this exciting season.

The game starts at 10.30am at Radlett Cricket Club. Tickets are available to buy on the day, at £10 for adults and £5 for children, whilst entry is free for Essex, Middlesex, and Northamptonshire members, as well as Junior Sunnies members. We wish a safe journey to those who are making the journey to join us, or you can tune into the Live Stream on our YouTube channel and in the Match Centre on the day.
