Sunrisers travel to Trent Bridge in Nottingham with an unchanged squad of thirteen to face The Blaze, in the penultimate Charlotte Edwards Cup match of the campaign.
Sunrisers go into the game off the back of a tough run of results, the latest seeing us suffer a seven wicket loss at the hands of Western Storm in Northampton on Wednesday.
It was a much-improved batting display, with the innings getting off to a bright start thanks to Mady Villiers, Dané van Niekerk, and Lissy Macleod, and with an electric finish from Jo Gardner and Amara Carr, we posted 149/6 – our highest score in this season’s CEC to date.
Two early wickets then saw the visitors at 12/2 – Villiers struck in the first over and there was a fortunate run out at the non-strikers end from Grace Scrivens – before Gibson and Wilson batted beautifully for Storm and took the game away from us.
Andy Tennant alluded to the shortcomings with the ball in his post-match interview, acknowledging that “the bowlers didn’t put enough balls in the right area”, before going on to say that once we are able to put “a performance together on both sides of the board then hopefully we’ll pick up a win or two along the way”.
The Blaze come into the game having travelled back from Durham with their 100% record still intact, beating Northern Diamonds by 6 wickets, and booking their slot in next week’s finals day.
They have lost star players Tammy Beaumont and Sarah Glenn to the England setup, who have shone for the region in their early season success, but will be looking to Scottish sisters Kathryn and Sarah Bryce to continue their good form alongside Georgie Boyce and South African overseas player Nadine de Klerk.
The game starts at 11.00am at the Trent Bridge, Nottingham, ahead of the Notts Outlaws v Lancashire Lightning T20 Blast game. We wish a safe journey to those who are making the journey over, or you can tune into the Live Stream on The Blaze’s YouTube channel and in the Match Centre on the day.
