SUNRISERS 2022 FIRST TEAM PLAYING SQUAD

Meet the 17-strong squad that will be representing Sunrisers for the 2022 season!

The six players who signed their professional contracts in November have featured heavily since Sunrisers first competitive match in August 2020, and Kelly Castle takes on the full captaincy role for the summer. Naomi Dattani will be her vice-captain across both formats.

Last season’s Batter and Players’ Player of the Year Cordelia Griffith will be a mainstay at the top of the order, alongside promising young all-rounder Grace Scrivens. Jo Gardner, who won the inaugural Hundred competition last year, and wicket-keeper batter Amara Carr are the other two players on professional contracts.

Sunrisers will be boosted by international spinners Mady Villiers and Abtaha Maqsood. England international Villiers was involved in the winter’s Ashes and World Cup campaigns in Australia and New Zealand, whilst Scotland’s Maqsood has signed a deal until the end of July.

Seam bowler Kate Coppack was heavily involved in last season’s campaign, playing eight times, and will look to be effective once more this summer, as will Sonali Patel – the young Middlesex bowler is currently the leading wicket taker for Sunrisers in competitive matches, taking 17 wickets in 13 games – including a hat-trick against Thunder last season.

Lissy MacLeod has been almost ever-present for Sunrisers over the last two seasons, and provides a useful option with both bat and ball. Gayatri Gole had a breakthrough season last year, and will be looking to continue her good pre-season form with the ball.

Mia Rogers provides an alternative option behind the stumps, and was an ever-present for Sunrisers in the Charlotte Edwards Cup last season, and Katherine Speed has progressed through the Academy to be a useful member of the Senior squad.

Three Academy players have also been included in the First Team squad. Wicket-keeper Scarlett Hughes has been in explosive form for Essex in pre-season, and will be challenging for that early season wicket-keeping spot, whilst Flo Miller became the 21st person to play for Sunrisers last summer when she was awarded her first Senior contract. Academy batter Jodi Grewcock has scored plenty of runs in pre-season, and is included in the Senior squad for the first time.

Our 2022 Charlotte Edwards Cup campaign begins in Chelmsford on Saturday 14 May, where we face the South East Stars. The match starts at 2.30pm, and you can buy tickets here.
