SUNRISERS UNVEIL COACHING TEAM & SSSM STAFF
Less than twelve months since Sunrisers launched as the London and East region’s Elite Women’s cricket team, today they unveiled the names of their coaching team and sports science/sports medicine (SSSM) team that has been appointed in recent months to help lead and assist with the development and progress of the Sunrisers’ playing squad, from its Elite Pathway Players right through to the Senior Playing Squad.
With Trevor Griffin appointed as the side’s Head Coach in the lead up to the truncated 2020 season, Regional Director of Women’s Cricket for Sunrisers, Danni Warren, has since been building an elite team of support staff, who have come together to provide the Sunrisers with the very best support network possible for the players.
Head Coach Griffin will be supported by two outstanding specialist coaches.
Mark Lane, former England Women’s Head Coach, who steered his country to two World Cup wins, a T20 World Cup title and success in the Women’s Ashes, will support the spin department, whilst Carl Greenidge, former Surrey, Northamptonshire, and Worcestershire professional, will assist the seam department. Both bring vast experience from the international and county games and add a huge amount of quality to Griffin’s own expertise in the Women’s game both home and abroad.
Warren has also appointed an impressive SSSM team, made up of specialists in their respective fields, with the goal of improving athletic performance, reducing the risk of injury and illness, supporting athlete wellbeing, and encouraging Sunrisers’ athletes to become more self-sufficient and take ownership of their own sports science practice,
Danni Warren, commented:
“Our SSSM programme’s mission is to develop athletes away from their cricketing skill sets in areas including, strength and conditioning, nutrition, physiology, performance psychology, personal well-being, and performance analysis.
“Working alongside our coaches from across the pathway, and with practitioners with expertise in all areas of performance development, our goal is to deliver an integrated and detailed support programme to aid athlete education, and subsequently performance.
“The programme will take many forms, including providing athlete education through interactive seminars, one to one support, athlete research, practical workshops and provision of resources to name but a few.
“We are really excited to have built such an impressive team to work with and support the players within our Pathway and are confident that the collective expertise they possess will really see the group benefit both as individuals and as cricketers.”
